Game Day
What I didn't get pictures of, because they were too far away, was the fella in nothing but a black speedo and a matching black lacrosse helmet, the cheerleaders, the dancers, the school band, the mascots, the coaches: about eight of them per team, in suits and ties, the baton twirler, the half-time basket shooting contests, the two three-year-old girls, emulating the dancers from the sidelines, the shirtless young men, each with a large letter painted on their fronts spelling "Texas", the singing, yes singing, Oh, and the basketball game. It was televised, so maybe you saw it. I was there. It was a great spectacle of entertainment, and a whole lot of fun! Austin is a fun fun town, and you should all plan to get hear ASAP.

Hey Jacquie,
You left Nanaimo for a life of quiet contemplation and ended up at a Texas basketball game? The Goddess, in her generous wisdom, is having you on! There were more people at that game than one usually sees all year here on the Island. As far as I am concerned, the sport is a huge metaphor for war: the man/boy warriors, the females who attend them, the general populace who encourage, but do not participate, and finally the suited "coaches" who deploy their boys into battle. Actually, the conceit is not really confined to basketball. Football would fit the bill, as well.
Having said all that, I imagine it was an unaccustomed experience. I don't remember you attending many Clippers' games!
I am so looking forward to your next outing.
Actually, I grew up in a sports family. And I watched a lot of NCAA sports when I was in my late teens. Mainly football, but some basketball. I played sports in high school too, before I traded my gym shorts in for a barstool at University.
I still enjoy watching a good game, but live hockey, like the CLippers, is cold.
Your war analogy works, but I'd rather have sports than war, and men, in general, do seem to have that conflict/warrior thing programmed in.
I don't think quiet contemplation is quite what the Universe has in store for me, but I hope I have time for it occasionally. Yippee!
